You know how fragile newborns are when they are first born? I absolutely love that stage. So tiny, so dependent, and so angelic. Their skin is still a little loose on their tiny legs and those toes! I just want to peek at them all the time.
One of my absolute favorite things to put my newborns in is the baby gowns with elastic around the bottom. They’re perfect for easy middle-of-the-night diaper changes, for dressing those delicate bodies, and for toe peeking.
So when I saw that the Lullaby Line designed by Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop had a pattern for baby gowns, I couldn’t help myself and bought it. Miss Mabey will be wearing a lot of baby gowns for the first few months.
Another win? A jersey sheet set on clearance for $6. I have yards of fabric, yards of elastic (yes, I took it all off the sheet), and I didn’t even have to make a casing for the bottom of this gown because I used the fitted sheet (pre pillaging). Winner!
I love this baby gown pattern because it’s easy to construct, yet it has all the little details like the mitts so they don’t scratch themselves.
One thing I should mention is that I made it a little longer than the pattern called for. My babies seem to grow out of their gowns lengthwise before they get too round so I was generous on the length.
Just a little contrasting binding (or not) and I already know I’m going to love putting my new baby into this gown. It’s the 3 month size, and depending on how big she’s looking I might do a smaller one. So far my biggest baby has been 6 lb. 8oz. so not very big. 🙂 But I like them to be able to wear the gowns for a long time.
These baby gowns might become my new go-to baby shower gift!

Baby Mine has always been a favorite lullaby of mine, especially when Saige was a baby. I’d sing and hum it over and over so that one especially holds a special place in my heart. Lullaby patterns and lullaby prints while you sing your baby of mine to sleep. Sounds perfect to me.
