Gilded Boxwood Wreath and Candle

Gilding is such a fun thing to try–its pretty magical because you simply paint a surface, and all the sudden its shiny and gold, and it looks amazing. And my gilded boxwood wreath and candle are no exception.

Its easy enough that I almost feel silly sharing this gilded boxwood project, except that I’m part of an awesome hop where everyone chose something to gild, and I am loving all the projects. And I might be biased, but I really love my gilded boxwood.

I had this plain boxwood wreath set from Decor Steals (affiliate), and I didn’t know what to do with the smallest one. Its small and I only had one, so I was at a loss. Then I thought about how pretty it would be around a candle. And how pretty it would be with some gold shimmer. I started with this bottle of Martha Stewart liquid gilding (in gold, but it comes in other colors too)

Out came the liquid gilding and a small paintbrush (that was already ruined–don’t use a good brush for this project). Just paint whatever leaves look good, and let them dry.

Now, I wanted to make a matching candle for my gilded boxwood, but didn’t want it permanent–because I change my decor often based on the house I’m currently living in.

So I put a couple strips of washi tape down and gilded the tape. Then when it was dry–just place it around the candle!

Put them all together on a simple frame, and that’s really all there is to it.

So what else can you gild? The sky’s the limit–just check out the other items my blogger friends have done with liquid gilding!
