Gwen and the Diamond: Pattern Anthology Unbiased Collection

Have you guys seen the Unbiased collection from Pattern Anthology? I got the chance to sew a couple of them up and share them with you today, and I think you’ll really like this collection. There are 4 patterns, and each is both a dress and a top designed to fit every body type out there. It’s a pretty awesome idea.

The two patterns I sewed up were the Diamond by Shwin Designs and the Gwen by See Kate Sew. I have made several patterns from both of these designers, and I always know I’m going to get a good result from them.

So let’s look at the patterns!

First up, the Gwen. I wanted to make the dress length, but my fabric wasn’t long enough to accomplish that. But the I noticed that there’s a bonus skirt piece marked on the pattern. So I made a top and a skirt that go together but work to give me more options.

First the shirt–I love that this pattern is so flattering. The shape is built into the pattern, and just from looking at the pattern piece I was excited. It comes in right at the natural waist and then gently flares back out for a great fit.

And of course the placket is super cute. I went with the faux raglan shoulder and sleeve, and really like it, and I also want to make a 3/4 sleeve because that’s just an ideal length for me.

The only thing I didn’t like? That I made it from a lightweight knit that is hard to work with and shows every flaw.

Next is the Diamond. I made a top version, and I knew I wanted to do something fun with the signature shape on the bodice. I didn’t have the “perfect” knit that was calling to me, so I kept thinking until I came up with the plan to use fold over elastic (FOE) as a piping to accentuate the seams. And while its called the diamond, I couldn’t help but see a pentagon. So I added some FOE to the bottom section as well for a fun detail. And, since I had some left over, I swapped out the neck binding for FOE as well. After shortening the sleeves to 3/4, I was done!

So what do you think? What’s your favorite pattern in the collection?

  • I am barely getting into sewing my last round of Pattern Anthology's patterns. The one I really like is the Adora top. I like the yoke on it. Makes it look like you did yourself up even when you are only in jeans and a t-shirt.
I love the stripes. It looks so great on you.

    • That happens to me sometimes too! This month I've sewn so much though that I'm feeling more caught up.I do love how the Adora mixes knit and woven. It's my next to sew up!

  • I love the T-shirt and think your use of foe is amazing. Really nice and I love the color too. It looks like something you will be wearing a lot!
