Lace Color Block Dress

I can’t seem to get enough lace recently. Perhaps its because I spend so much of my time in jeans and a t-shirt that when I get dressed up I want to really feel classy. But no matter the reason, when I got to participate in the Color Block Dress tour, I knew immediately what I wanted to make.

About a year ago, I had a rare moment alone and found a dress I adored. It was a knit dress much like this with a lace-printed knit and 3/4 sleeves. It fit me so well and was only $15. I wanted it so badly, but there was one problem–it was too short. Now normally that isn’t a problem, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to match the lace-print knit and I didn’t want a solid colored band around the bottom, so I left the dress there. And I’ve thought about it ever since.

Then I saw the Color Block Dress pattern, and I was sold. I even had black knit, white knit, and stretch lace at hand. It was fate.

Having the lace and the white knit as my center panel added a little bit of work as I had to cut extra and baste the pieces together, but it was so worth it!

As far as changes to the directions, I also decided I wanted a little more coverage on the sleeve so I extended them about 2 inches. I also didn’t want the neck band to show, so after attaching it, I folded the whole band under to get a nice stable neckline without the contrast. I also added a row of stretch lace to the bottom for a nice finish.

Since there are several seams all around the dress, it’s easy to adjust where you need to get a really tailored look. I am apparently less hippy than the pattern called for, so I had to take in a bunch at the hips, but I love the outcome.

Now I’m ready for a date with my sweetheart!

The Color Block Dress pattern is now for sale over at So Sew Easy, so head on over and get your copy!
