No Sew Toddler Bookmark

Don’t you just love little chubby toddler fingers? They use them so deliberately as they work on grabbing and grasping, and it really is the cutest sight. Today Stephanie from Swoodson Says is sharing a project that will make you notice those little fingers. Hi! I’m Stephanie from Swoodson Says and I thought I’d share a super quick, sewing optional DIY that uses up fabric scraps. I have an almost 2 year old son and I have fun sewing things for him- I’ve made a toddler sized tote, a toddler buckle toy, and a giant floor book pillow. There is something about quick, no sew projects that I love though! You could whip through a few of these during one nap-time and they’d make a great stocking stuffer.

This project is so, so easy. All the normal bookmarks we have are too short and thin to work in big picture books, so I thought I’d make him his own!

Supplies:

• Fabric scraps for the letters
• Background fabric scrap 4″ wide X 10.5″ high
• Laminator (or laminate at a copy shop)
• Iron
• Glue stick or Wonder Under
• Pen
• Scissors
• Here is a link for the READ letters template (reverse if using Wonder Under)

Steps

1. Trace & cut letters and backing. Wonder Under is a fancy (but cheap) interfacing-esque material that you can sketch on it, iron on to fabric, cut around, peel off, and iron on to the background fabric. If you’re not familiar, you can see an applique tutorial with pictures here.You can also just trace directly on to the fabric, cut, and use a glue stick to position.

2. Position the letters evenly. You could stitch here, if you were so inclined, or add embroidery details.

3. Laminate! I have a Scotch at home laminator but it’s very inexpensive to laminate at Staples or Office Max. Trim and you’re set!
