Pier 7 Top and Perfect Petal Skirt–Bundle Up Women

I always love being part of a blog tour–especially when it’s for a Bundle Up sale where there are so many fun patterns to choose from. And while I sewed up two today, there are several more I really want to make up.

The patterns I tested were the Pier 7 Top from Terra’s Treasures and the Perfect Petal Skirt from Little Lizard King. Both were fun to make, so I’ll talk a little about them individually so you get a better idea about each pattern.

The Pier 7 Top is such a fun top. It’s made for lightweight wovens (although you could make it in a knit as well) and is a perfect summer top. I love how it’s feminine, floaty, and comfortable all at the same time. It features a pintucked front, flutter sleeves, and an elasticized waist for a flattering fit.

I used some fabulous fabric I picked up at a thrift store a long time ago and have been waiting for the perfect project. I knew this was the pattern I wanted to use it on. The pattern is pretty easy to follow and it even encouraged me to try something I haven’t done before–a rolled hem on my serger. Um, it was really easy and it has me wondering why I’ve never done it before.

The only alterations I made were to shorten the top a little, make the flutter sleeve smaller (especially under the arm), and add a cap sleeve under the flutter so I wouldn’t have to wear another shirt underneath–it’s summer after all!

The Perfect Petal skirt is a quick and easy sew with a tulip front and gathered side panel. It’s a straightforward skirt that is easy to dress up or dress down. And I love the way she has you hem the bottom–all in one straight shot before the tops of the panels are sewn together. I would like this skirt a little longer than mine turned out, but that’s easy enough to do.

So make sure you check out the patterns, click around to other blogs on the tour for more inspiration, and I hope you find something you’d like to sew for yourself!

  • Great job! I got both those patterns in my bundle up and can't wait to get sewing! The rolled hem is so fun and a lightning fast way to hem! Glad you're cozied up to it now - you'll find a million things to hem with it. :)

  • Oh, I'm loving that flutter sleeve detail. So sweet! And I love your fabric choices Lisa!

  • Very pretty top for summer! The fabric is great too. I love neutral fabrics that aren't boring. I think this fabric fits in the category perfectly, making it really versatile!

    • Thanks, Nikki! To make the cap sleeve, I took a piece of fabric and folded it along the outside of the cap and then placed it inside the armscye before sewing the side seams so I could see the right shape. Then I just winged it. Ha! I'll have to do a tutorial on it though, because it's harder to just explain in words. Hope that's a little bit helpful!
