How to Make a Suede Flower Comb

In December, I had so much fun bringing you my flower combs that I decided to make another one–but this time I’m making suede flowers to add. I originally shared this at Create.Craft.Love last month, but I’m happy to be bringing it home today.

Hi, I’m Lisa Mabey from Mabey She Made It, a DIY, crafts, and sewing blog, and I’ve been having a fun time dressing up my hair lately. I have naturally curly hair that I love, but sometimes I don’t get the chance to do my hair when I get out of the shower (sound familiar?) so on those days I like to do this simple hairstyle and add a little flair that makes it look like I had more time than I really did. We all need those tricks, right?

 Suede Flower Comb Supplies

  • Suede
  • Needle and thread
  • Small circle to trace and a pen
  • Bead
  • Comb

Instructions

  1. Trace 5 circles on the wrong side of your suede with a pen or marker to make your petals. I used the lid of a paint bottle for my circles.
  2. Cut them out, then cut one side of each petal flat like this:
  3. Take your threaded needle (with a knotted end) and one petal, and go down, up, and down again on the end of the first petal. Continue to the next petal until you have all five petals on your thread.
  4. Go back to your first petal and join the first and last together. Pull your thread tight to get a tight circle, and knot your thread.
  5. Stitch a bead into the center of your flower.
  6. Stitch the flower to a metal comb, and tie it off.

And now when you pull your hair back, just slide it in and even a pony tail will look a little more put together. You know, so you can concentrate on cleaning up whatever your kids got into while you took your shower. 🙂

  • Oh my goodness Lisa- SO simple and easy for such a pretty comb. One can dress it up (social occasion/work) or down(for a jeans day).
Thanks I am putting that on my Christmas to do list for my granddaughters !

    • I'm totally crushing on suede right now. I'd love to do different colors. And I'd love it if you shared the photos with me!
