Last Valentine’s day, Saige got to take handmade Valentine cards to her little Nursery class, but we didn’t know until a day before because we had just moved…no surprises there though, right? It was the first time she’d had somewhere to take a Valentine (and the first time that she’d remember) so I wanted to do something fun.

I pulled out some supplies and designed some handmade Valentine cards that were simple enough that she could do the majority of the work by herself, and we sat down to make cards. She really got into it.

Valentines Cards Instructions

  1. Start with a 3″ x 6″ piece of card stock, and fold into half for the base.
  2. Punch a heart from patterned paper using a large heart punch. Punch a small flower from white card stock. Adhere the heart to the base, then adhere the small flower to the heart using dimensional tape.
  3. Using a marker, draw a dot in the middle of the flower. Write I {heart} U! on the bottom of the card.
  4. For the inside, I wrote her name on a strip of card stock, and snipped the ends to look like a banner. Then she glued it in. That’s it!

She absolutely loved making them! And I can’t believe how young she really was a year ago–she looks like a baby (okay, she was only 2-1/2, but I forget how young she really was).

And I loved seeing her little mind make small creative decisions. If you look, you’ll see that they’re not all the same. Some cards open different ways, some hearts are in corners, and some are in the middle.

And the small handmade Valentine cards were perfect for giving to young friends.

We got lots of compliments on them, and best of all, she had a blast giving Valentines for the first time.
