When You Want a Classic Blouse…Omega It Is

It’s been a long time since I was part of a blog tour, but I had to hop on this one because the two blouses that comprise the tour are exactly the kinds of tops I reach for to wear under cardigans in the winter and in the summer to wear alone.
I had previously purchased the Omega top because I loved the lines, the options, and the feminine details. Obviously I needed to make it, and this tour would give me a deadline. Ha!
And when the Classic Shell pattern came out I loved it for different reasons–a shell with bust darts, tulip sleeves (just one of sleeve options), and a flattering shape.
And then the idea hit me–what if you put the tulip sleeve on the Omega? Yup, it works with a little tweaking.
The tulip sleeve is a bit wider than the armscye on the Omega, so when cutting, I trimmed about 1/2″ off the end that connects in the underarm. I also used my basting stitches to help ease the sleeve into the Omega armscye, so depending on the size you make you may have to make additional adjustments.
Other adjustments I made were to lower the waist point (my natural waist is lower than the pattern is drafted for), go up a size in the yoke width only (I have broad shoulders), and a swayback adjustment to get rid of the horizontal drag lines in the back.
And the fit is awesome. I love that it’s shapely without being tight and comfortable. The tulip sleeve gives you so much range of movement and adds to the feminine detail.
For the next while I’ll be layering it under a jacket or cardigan, but when the sun comes out in full force you know I’ll be glad to slip on this light, airy blouse when I’m out and about.
This week the Omega is on sale for 20% off ($7.95, reg $9.95) and the Classic Shell is only $5. Go get yours!
