As promised in my intro post about the Flora and Fauna fabric that’s now out in the world (yay!), today I’m bringing you some of the things I’ve sewn up for my kids and some fun ideas for using each print.
You’ll just have to be patient with the photos, since it was super cold outside during these photos, and my kids were cooperative, but freezing. And there was a skinned knee incident, so they were really troopers.
Let’s start with the deer! I made my youngest daughter a cute little t-shirt dress with colorful ties with the teal windowpane deer. I love how simple it is and shows off the deer so well. I initially was going to pair it with teal solid, but loved this green with it so much I had to go with the deep sage color. It’s a perfect complement. I used the Sew Like My Mom Pistachio Tee for the dress and just lengthened it 9″ and added ties at my daughter’s natural waist.
Then there’s the coral windowpane deer. It’s so stinkin’ feminine and cute. I made a Hey June Camden Raglan with the deer for the body and the coral dots coordinate for the sleeves and details. The Camden is my favorite raglan for my older daughters (it starts at a size 6 since its a teen pattern) and I use it all the time because of the feminine lines and details.
She wanted a pencil skirt, and the rainbow herringbone print was just perfect to go with it. I love how the scale of the herringbone is big enough to stand out but not so big that it takes over. It’s a great complement to the bolder prints in the collection. This self-drafted pencil skirt is so, so easy to whip up that I love making them as much as my daughters love wearing them.
My little guy got some herringbone as well. Paired with the same solid sage, he also got a pistachio tee. I love the color blocking on this pattern, so I use it often. This combo was so fun I also made another one (almost the same) for my nephew.
Then my oldest daughter also wanted a pencil skirt from the herringbone (they love to coordinate with each other and often want the same thing although I like to switch it up a little for ease of laundry sorting…) so she got one from the other color way.
And another Camden Raglan in the Teal stripes. What I love about this one is how the stripes match at the raglan sleeve. I love stripes so much for this reason. There’s always a cool way to work with stripes. I paired it with a solid teal, but it works equally well with mustard or the other color stripes.
And what about the rainbow stripes? They’re here too, but in an unmodeled shot. Sometimes you do what you can do. Lol.
For this shirt, i wanted a fun diagonal that is the main focus of the whole top. It’s a slim-fitting dolman, and all of your attention goes right to where the stripes meet up. I was having quite the day I made this though, and had to recut the top several times to get them right–I just couldn’t wrap my head around what I was doing wrong. Gah! (Tell me I’m not the only one who has this kind of day.)
So that’s a variety of projects you can make from these fabrics, and I have so many more in store including using the stripes across the chest of a tee, Easter pjs for the family, and a herringbone hoodie. Hopefully I can get those done soon and share them with you. I’ve been sharing a whole lot of ideas and other projects on Instagram, so I’d love to have you follow along over there as well.
