Maybe you’re like me, and you find yourself a creative nomad of sorts. I’ve always been creative at heart, and trying new things just makes me happy. That also means I sometimes find new passions.
The early days of Mabey She Made It included everything from paper crafts to sewing to home decor. In a lot of ways I was trying to figure out who I was. I’d worked for a rubber stamp company for years at that point and loved what I could create in the paper craft community. So I threw that into the hat. Then I got a sewing machine (ironically I got it to add stitching on handmade cards), and my passion for paper gave way to creating clothing and fabric crafts.
Along the way, we moved A LOT and every time we did I had to start over on making the new space into a HOME. So I tried my hand at DIY home decor with both paper and fabric. While these projects didn’t get as much of the spotlight, they were the part that kept me grounded through the moves and renovations.
Over a decade of sewing, I got really good at it and often spent at least a few minutes every single day at the sewing machine. I could whip out a t-shirt in 30 minutes and a simple knit dress in not much longer. I loved creating clothes for my kids (and myself) in part because it was an act of love to sew for them.
That love of sewing and an encounter when I was part of the Project Run & Play competition ignited in me a desire to design fabric, and the more I got into fabric, the less time I spent sewing.
In a way, designing repeat patterns feels like a culmination of all my previous passions. It includes the colors and layouts of paper crafting, the design aspects of sewing, and my deep love for creating a home that you really connect with.
So while this blog is no longer updated with any regularity, I’m still very active and passionate over at Lisee Ree Designs. I would love for you to join me there.
